One of the largest local history museums in the Southeast, Greensboro Historical Museum invites visitors to explore the colorful past of the North Carolina Piedmont region, featuring exhibits spanning the life of first lady Dolly Madison to the historic Greensboro sit-ins of the Civil Rights Era. Visitors are invited to peruse the museum's impressive collection of Civil War firearms, explore a reconstructed movie house from the early 20th century, study memorabilia from the life of famed short story writer O. Henry, as well as explore two restored 18th century homes located on the premises. Housed in a Richardson Romanesque style church built in 1892, the museum lies downtown, just northwest of Greensboro Public Library.
