Originally constructed in 1795, Blandwood is considered the oldest standing example of Italianate architecture in the nation. This National Historic Landmark was home to North Carolina Governor John Motley Morehead, and contains an Italian villa featuring a tower, stucco walls, and symmetrical flanking dependencies. The two-story farmhouse, complete with Victorian-style gardens, is also filled with numerous antiques from that time period and the home's original furnishings. Blandwood lies 24 miles east of Winston-Salem, a block and a half east of Greensboro College.
