People Of Greensboro: Embrace Your Library

Posted bybunnieeswannon 1/22/2008

I have never given any library a review until today. The primary reasons I'm giving it is because: It was effortless getting a new library card, it's a beautiful and clean location, and the Library offers Rosetta Stone online to learn a multitude of languages. The last offering simply cannot be beat. Now, I must add that I'm not a library rat, meaning, I don't go there frequently, though when I do, it's always a great experience. I've also attended a few financial seminars in the nice meeting rooms. Greensboro Library, I appreciate you and thanks for all that you offer! Update: July 2009 - I wanted to update this review to say that the Greensboro NC Public Library no longers offer Rosetta Stone online for free after I attempted to use it again and was unable to. I inquired with the library who advised that their lease/contract with the software company has expired with no renewal. This is very unfortunate for Greensboro citizens. Free Rosetta Stone online was one offering I began to use from home to learn other languages. We also have a large and growing Hispanic population here and I had never seen this offering at any other library. Furthermore, to buy language education from Rosetta Stone cost is $229.00 for 1 level of any language. To buy all levels of any language, it's $499.00, with a comprehensive version costing $999.00. Who the hell can afford that? Again, this is unfortunate for Greensboro citizens and definitely an item I want to mention a change in.
